An electrician in East Brisbane who calls back, turns up and charges what was quoted.
Residential Electrical Services.
AMP’D Services Group is a licensed residential electrician serving Camp Hill, Coorparoo, Carindale, Bulimba, Hawthorne, Norman Park and the East Brisbane suburbs under Electrical Contractor Licence 1504460. We install and certify smoke alarms, switchboard upgrades, EV chargers, lighting and renovation electrical. Every job is inspected on site before it is quoted, and a certificate of compliance is issued on completion.
Before you call
The three things people tell us before they call
“Nobody calls me back.”
Three voicemails, two texts, and a renovation timeline held hostage by people who will not communicate.
“I have no idea if this price is fair.”
One quote says $1,800, another says $4,600, and nothing explains the difference. The mid-job phone call that starts with ‘so, we opened up the wall and’ is the part everyone dreads.
“I do not know what is behind my walls.”
Old rubber and cloth wiring, a fuse board nobody has touched since 1978, no safety switches, downlights sitting against insulation. It is a fair thing to worry about.
We inspect first, tell you plainly what is legally required, what is a genuine safety risk and what can genuinely wait, then quote the whole job before anyone starts work.

SMOKE ALARM INSTALLATION
Interconnected smoke alarm installation in Brisbane before 1 January 2027
Legal deadline: 1 January 2027. Every owner-occupied Queensland home must comply.
Queensland’s smoke alarm law changes for owner-occupiers on 1 January 2027. Every home needs interconnected photoelectric alarms, correctly located and certified. We audit what you already have, install what the legislation requires and hand you a written record of the work.
In plain English, the law requires a photoelectric smoke alarm in every bedroom, in every hallway that connects bedrooms to the rest of the house, and on every story even where there are no bedrooms on that level. All of the alarms must be interconnected, so when one detects smoke every alarm in the house sounds at once.
The alarms must be photoelectric and compliant with AS 3786:2014, and they must be either hardwired or fitted with a non-removable ten-year lithium battery. Ionisation alarms, the older type with a radioactive material symbol on the back, are no longer acceptable anywhere in a Queensland home.
Rentals and properties being sold have already been required to comply since 1 January 2022. The 2027 deadline is the final stage, and it captures every remaining owner-occupied home in the state. Nothing about the requirement changes between now and then, so there is no advantage in waiting, and there is a clear disadvantage: the closer the deadline gets, the harder it becomes to book an electrician at short notice.
At the end of the job you receive the alarms installed and tested as a connected system, a certificate of compliance, and a simple written schedule showing where each alarm is located and the date it was installed. That schedule is what a buyer’s solicitor, a property manager or an insurer will ask for, and it is far easier to hand over than to reconstruct three years later.
What is included
Landlords, property managers and body corporates
Rental properties have needed compliant interconnected alarms since 2022, and the obligation sits with the owner at every lease renewal. We price portfolios per property, coordinate access directly with tenants or your property manager, and return one compliance record per address so your files are complete without anyone chasing them.
SWITCHBOARD UPGRADES
Switchboard upgrades in Brisbane and East Brisbane
A lot of East Brisbane housing stock still runs on a board that was designed for a fridge, a kettle and three light circuits. A switchboard upgrade replaces ceramic fuses with circuit breakers, adds safety switches on every circuit, and gives you the capacity for air conditioning and an EV charger.
We take the cover off before quoting, because the price depends on what is behind it: the wiring type, the number of circuits, the condition of the mains and whether the backing board contains asbestos. Where we find old rubber or cloth-insulated wiring we tell you straight away, and we tell you whether it needs replacing now or can be monitored.
On the day, your power will be off for a short period for a board changeover, and most of a working day where the meter or the mains need attention. You get that window in writing before we book the job, so you can plan around the fridge, the home office and the school run.
Signs you need one
Signs you need an upgrade
Ceramic rewirable fuses instead of circuit breakers
No safety switches, or safety switches on only some circuits
A board nobody has touched in three or four decades
Breakers tripping under normal everyday load
No spare capacity for air conditioning or an EV charger

EV CHARGER INSTALLATION
EV charger installation in Brisbane
A home charger is a straightforward install when the supply can carry it, and an expensive surprise when nobody checked first. We assess the site and the switchboard before quoting, so the number you approve includes everything the installation actually needs.
We look at the available capacity, whether the property is single or three phase, where the car sits relative to the board, and how the cable can be run and the unit mounted. Where several circuits are already loaded, load management can let the charger share capacity rather than forcing an upgrade, and we will tell you when that is the better value option.
Sometimes a switchboard upgrade genuinely is required, most often where there is no spare capacity. That typically requires an additional cost, and we say so at quote stage rather than on the morning of the install.
What is included
LIGHTING INSTALLATION
LED downlight and lighting installation in Brisbane
Downlights, pendants, outdoor and security lighting, sensor lights and LED strip, across renovations and one-room refreshes. We plan the layout with you before we cut a single hole, because downlight spacing is very hard to argue with once the plasterboard is open.
We bundle your small jobs into one visit so you are not paying a callout multiple times.
What is included

CEILING FANS
Ceiling fan installation and replacement in Brisbane
Supply and installation of new ceiling fans, replacement of existing fans, and conversion of a light-only point to a fan and light. We check the ceiling structure and the existing circuit before quoting, because a fan hung off a fitting that was never rated to carry one is a common find in older East Brisbane homes.
Replacing like for like is straightforward where the wiring and the mounting are sound. The work grows when there is no fan point in the room, when the existing point is on a light-only circuit, or when the ceiling is raked, high, or lined with something that will not take a fixing. We look at all of that during the free site inspection and quote the whole job, including the switching and the cabling, before anyone starts.
If you have already bought the fans, we will install them. If you have not, we will tell you plainly which type suits the room, because a fan sized for a bedroom moves very little air in an open-plan living space and no amount of installation quality fixes that.
What is included
CARAVAN 240V INSTALLATION
Caravan and camper 240V installation Brisbane
Fixed 240V wiring in a caravan, camper or fitted-out van must be installed and certified under AS/NZS 3001.1:2022 by a licensed electrical contractor, and an auto electrician cannot issue that certification.
We install and certify the 240V side of caravan and camper fitouts: inlet, switchboard with RCD and breakers, internal circuits, outlets and appliance connections, plus the insulation resistance, polarity and earth continuity testing that AS/NZS 3001.2:2022 requires. If you are building out a van yourself, get the 240V work certified before you fill the walls, not after.

POWER AND SWITCHES
Powerpoints and switches
Adding, moving and replacing power points and switches, and running the dedicated circuits that ovens, cooktops and other fixed appliances need. Common on renovations, on pre-sale preparation, and in homes where the plate style has not been touched since the wiring was installed.
Most homes we look at have two problems at once. There are not enough outlets where people actually live, and the switch plates are a mix collected over thirty years of separate small jobs. Both are inexpensive to fix while a room is already open and awkward to fix afterwards, so we plan outlet positions with you at the same time as the lighting layout rather than after it.
Ovens and cooktops are the other common one. A new appliance often draws more than the one it replaces, and the isolating switch has usually moved in the new kitchen layout. We check the existing circuit and the spare capacity at the board before the appliance is ordered, rather than on the morning it is delivered.

BEFORE YOU LIST
Preparing a property for sale
Getting a home ready for market rarely calls for a renovation. It usually calls for a short and specific list: the fitting that dates the room, the mixed switch plates, the fan that has not worked for two years, the smoke alarms that will not pass, and the oven circuit that needs sorting before the new appliance goes in.
We walk the property with you, or with your agent, and separate the items worth doing before market from the items that will not return the money. The ones you choose are priced as a single scope and completed around photography, styling and open home dates.
REVIEW
We walk the property and list the electrical items a buyer will notice.
PRIORITISE
We tell you plainly which are worth doing before market and which are not.
COMPLETE
One scope, one price, finished around your campaign dates.
We are not trying to talk anyone into a rewire before an auction. The point is to leave the electrical details looking considered rather than collected.

Why AMP’D
About the price, before you ask about the price.
Three things worth knowing before the number arrives.
01
A quote that has not been scoped is not cheaper, it is just unfinished
The lower number from other contractors often means fewer things were looked at. We take the switchboard cover off, check the wiring type, count the circuits and make other observations and assumptions before anything is written down. If our figure is higher on day one, it is usually because it is the whole job rather than the first half of it.
02
The price you approve is the price you pay
Everything we can see is in the quote, in writing, with the exclusions stated. If something genuinely could not be seen from the outset, such as damaged wiring inside a wall, you hear about it and approve it before we touch it. No mid-job phone calls that start with an apology and end with a number.
03
We tell you what can wait
We separate three things: what is legally required, what is a genuine safety risk, and what can comfortably wait a couple of years. Plenty of people are told everything is urgent. It rarely is, and staging the work over two budgets is often the sensible answer.

Residential services FAQ
Residential questions we get asked.
Grouped so you can find yours quickly: general, smoke alarms, switchboards, and EV and caravan work.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Site inspections and quotes are free. We do not price residential work over the phone, because a phone estimate is a guess and guesses are what turn into variations later.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
No. We work standard business hours on planned and booked work. If you have no power tonight, we are not the right call and we would rather say so now.
How soon can you come out?
Site inspections are usually within a few business days. Booked work is generally scheduled within one to two weeks, sooner where a genuine safety issue is involved.
Can I get several small jobs done in one visit?
Yes, and you should. We bundle your small jobs into one visit so you are not paying a callout three times. Send us the list when you enquire.
What is the difference between photoelectric and ionisation, and how do I tell which I have?
Photoelectric alarms detect smouldering smoke, which is what kills people at night. Ionisation alarms respond to flaming fires and are no longer compliant. Check the back of the alarm: ionisation units carry a radioactive material symbol and the wording ‘ionisation’.
Can you do a whole rental portfolio?
Yes. We price portfolios per property, coordinate access with tenants or the property manager, and return one compliance record per address.
How long will my power be off?
Plan for three to five hours for a standard board changeover, and most of a day where the meter or mains need work. We give you the window in writing before the day.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger?
Sometimes. It depends on the spare capacity, the existing supply and whether safety switches are fitted. We check that before quoting, and if an upgrade is needed it typically requires an additional cost which will be explained to you clearly.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Electrical Contractor Licence 1504460, with public liability and professional indemnity cover. A certificate of compliance is issued on every job we complete.
Why is your quote higher than the other one?
Usually because ours covers the whole job. Ask the other electrician what happens if something is found once the wall is open, then compare the two answers rather than the two numbers.
Do you clean up afterwards?
Yes. Ceiling dust and offcuts are taken away, and the old fittings leave with us unless you want to keep them.
Do I need interconnected alarms in my house?
If you own and live in a Queensland home, yes, by 1 January 2027. Rentals and homes being sold have needed them since 2022.
What happens if I miss the smoke alarm deadline?
Your home is non-compliant, insurance can be affected after a fire, and you cannot legally sell or lease until it is fixed. It is far cheaper to book it in before the 2026 rush.
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost?
Book your free quote with us. Meter relocations, asbestos backing boards and rewiring of old circuits push it higher, and we tell you which of those apply before you commit.
Do I really need this switchboard upgrade or is it an upsell?
We inspect, then tell you plainly what is legally required, what is a genuine safety risk, and what can wait another two years. If your board is fine, we will say it is fine.
Do I need a licensed electrician for 240V caravan work?
Yes. Fixed 240V wiring in a caravan or camper must be installed and certified by a licensed electrical contractor under AS/NZS 3001.2:2022. An auto electrician cannot certify it.
